	Content: Introduction (human visual perception, basic principals of industrial machine vision systems). Image formation (Lenses, Sensors, and Signals, Image Geometry, Camera Modelling and Calibration). Binary image processing (Image representations, segmentation, image moments, mathematical morphology, region representations). Image filtering (convolution, frequency domain representations, noise removal filters). Gradient based edge detection. Selected topics in Image analysis.

	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: Discuss applications of computer vision in industry Describe the geometrical equations of image formation Describe the different types of image sensor Identify suitable morphological operations for a specific binary image processing task Identity a suitable threshold selection method for segmenting an image Design a method which uses the Fourier Transform to perform edge detection Describe how template matching can be used to perform object recognition Design a nearest neighbour classifier to perform object classification
