Mature Applicants 

Mature applicants are assessed separately to school-leavers. Mature applicants are 23 years or older by 1st January in the year of entry to the University. For part-time/flexible degrees the mature age is 21. Late application (for existing CAO applicants) accepted up to 1st May 2024.

Mature applicants who have a disability 

If you have a disability or specific learning difficulty (e.g. dyslexia), and require examination support for any written tests that may be required, please submit supporting documentation by 15 March 2024 to the Access Office.

BA Bachelor of Arts – Psychological Studies – Double Major. Psychological Studies and another subject to degree level.

1st year

• 15 credits of Psychological Studies (group 6)
• Choose up to 3 other subjects, which may include Critical Skills, from the groups available (max 1 per group)

2nd & 3rd year

• Psychological Studies - 30 credits
• Plus continue with 1 other subject from 1st year as part of a Double Major degree. Does not lead to a PSI accredited degree (see course description information for more about what this means)
• Optional 10 credit Elective in 2nd year

Students may apply to study overseas after second year (on Erasmus or Study Abroad) and graduate with a BA (International) after 4 years. See the International Studies website for details.

PSYCHOLOGICAL STUDIES Subject Overview >Psychological Studies in MH101 is a flexible degree option, ideal if you would like to learn about human behaviour in combination with another subject in the BA Arts Double Major pathway. This flexibility allows students to focus on key aspects of Psychology alongside other subjects of interest. For example, you may wish to combine Psychological Studies with subjects like Criminology, Business, Sociology or Geography. >Unlike MH106 and MH209, Psychological Studies in MH101 will not lead to a professionally-accredited degree. However, Psychological Studies graduates are eligible to apply for consideration for entry to a one-year master’s postgraduate programme to achieve a professionally- accredited qualification in psychology (on a competitive basis - with limited numbers). >Teaching is delivered by leading researchers in Psychology involved in the cutting-edge of the discipline. Staff in the Department of Psychology at Maynooth University are highly research active, and enjoy state-of-the-art research facilities and technical support. >Research in the Department applies cutting-edge psychological science to address four complementary overlapping themes: Rehabilitation, disability and health psychology; Mental health, community and positive psychology; Neuroscience, behaviour and cognition; and Organisations, policy and systems. 15 credit option only in 1st year. Only one of these can be taken as a double subject since the extra 15 credits for each are taught at the same time: Anthropology, Computer Science, German (beginner), History, International Development, Law, Sociology, Spanish (beginner).
