Mature applicants are assessed separately to school-leavers. Mature applicants are 23 years or older by 1st January in the year of entry to the University. For part-time/flexible degrees the mature age is 21.

Leaving Certificate Applicants

Duration: 4 years

Chemistry is taken with: Mathematics, Biology and one other Science subject in first year, with Biology and Mathematics or an Elective in second year and with Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Chemistry and Biology in third year.

In fourth year you will have the opportunity to undertake a six-month work placement/internship (subject to availability), as well as take courses in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Chemistry and Biology.

1st year

Chemists work in a wide range of companies, from pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to cosmetics and medical devices firms, as well as in the agricultural, food and drinks sector. Their roles include laboratory-based quality control, research and development, manufacture support or regulatory positions.
