On successful completion of the module, students should be able to:

Identify and explain social, political, and cultural contexts that shaped Latin America, with an emphasis on countries directly impacted by the spread of military dictatorships in the period 1960-1990.

Recognise and summarise the characteristics of the Latin American literary Boom and post-Boom, and interpret these traits in close reading of key texts.

Examine and critique literary works and films through close reading and contextualisation, applying theoretical frameworks in the analysis of selected literary texts and films.

Research, develop, and present critical commentary in written and oral form, on a number of works, providing a balanced and well-structured argument.

Evaluate the role of literature and film production in the creation and revision of concepts such as nation and collective memory.
