This module aims to develop and apply concepts learned in SP151 in the Irish case. It includes the evolution of the welfare state in Ireland, key periods or phases of development; how the Irish welfare state has developed to the present level; how social policy today reflects developments, past debates and decisions, and the main pillars of the welfare state (health, housing, employment, income maintenance, personal social services and education). An additional component of this module is an overview of key concepts and themes in equality.
