Module DATA ANALYTICS PROJECT

Module code: NCG613
Credits: 5
Semester: 2
Department: NATIONAL CENTRE FOR GEOCOMPUTI
International: Yes
Coordinator: Dr Kevin Credit (NATIONAL CENTRE FOR GEOCOMPUTI)
Overview Overview

This module contains two primary components: 1) an introduction to the Python programming language and its application in spatial data analysis, and 2) an overview of the general principles of designing and executing a research project. Students will combine these components by completing a significant data analytics research project using Python. This will require the identification of analytical questions to be addressed; identification of appropriate sources of data; consideration of appropriate analytical techniques to apply; and reporting of the results of the analysis. Students will work in teams and assessment will be based primarily on a final report and team presentation. On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: 1) employ basic and advanced spatial data science methods in Python and 2) understand foundational scientific research concepts such as developing a research question, conducting a literature review, and completing a final research report.
