This module provides an introduction to key theories underlying the field of criminology against the backdrop of criminal justice policies and processes. It investigates the nature and origins of the discipline of criminology, and provides an insight into the complex trends and theoretical paradigms which shape the study of crime. A broad overview of the operation of the criminal justice system is provided, and its functioning considered in the context of criminological theory.
This module is compulsory for all MA students who do not have a strong background in criminological theory (defined as a 2:2 grade or higher in an undergraduate criminology theory module). It is also optional for other MA students and for LLM Global Legal Studies students.
Any aspect of this module may be changed in any given academic year, subject to the discretion of the module lecturer.
