• Understand and critique some theories and practices which affect economic, social, political, cultural and environmental development at local and global levels, including the sustainable development goals (SDGs).
• Discuss and explain different causes of poverty, inequality, conflict and injustice around the world from a social, economic, political and historical perspective.
• Identify some of the main roles of governments, businesses, development organisations and global activist movements in relation to key aspects of economic, social, political, cultural and environmental development at local and global levels.
• Demonstrate an appreciation for alternative development approaches which help to realise more inclusive and sustainable futures, e.g., socially responsible business practices, climate justice, alternative development practices, decolonialism, gender equality and human rights approaches to development.

• Lectures will include a combination of large-group methods designed to encourage the development of knowledge, understanding and reflection as well as participatory and creative learning tools. These will include presentations by the module lecturer, small and large group discussions and reflection on a variety of creative tools such as images, videos, podcasts and cartoons. Tutorials will be organised in small groups allowing for more individual and small group reflection on reading, discussion of topics and the development of academic analytical and writing skills relevant to global development.

• Are supplemental/resit registrations permitted? Yes
• Repeat students must resit the repeat assignment in the Autumn and submit any outstanding continuous assessment by a date before the Autumn deadline, which will be specified by the department. Students are responsible for familiarising themselves with this deadline. If students do not submit by the deadline, the existing continuous assessment mark will be carried forward to the Autumn. No continuous assessment work will be accepted after this date. This will apply except upon presentation of a medical certificate covering the relevant period or in other extremely extenuating circumstances, which must be communicated to, and accepted by, the lecturer prior to, or immediately after, the relevant deadline
