To introduce the study of electromagnetic fields and its principles. To introduce basic electrical machines such as motors, generators and transformers.
Electromagnetics
Faraday’s Law; Lenz’s Law; EM induction; Ampere’s Law; Static Magnetic Fields, Magnetic Circuits; Electromechanical Energy Conversion; Rotating Magnetic Fields; Rotating Machines; Induction Machines; Synchronous Machines; DC Machines; Traveling waves, transmission lines, propagation of RF waves.

• Review of Vector Algebra
• Electric Fields, Electric Flux Density, Gauss’s Law and Divergence
• Energy, Electric Potential and Gradient, Conductors, Dielectrics and Capacitance
• Magnetic Fields, Biot-Savart law, Amperes Law and Curl
• Magnetic Forces and Inductance, Faraday’s Law,
• Displacement Current and an introduction to Maxwell’s Equations
• Problems related to EM waves in various medium and transmission lines.
• Propagation related to RF.
Machines
• Inductors, Motors, generators, and the difference between them.
• Modeling and Analysis of problems relating to these machine types.
• Modeling and Analysis of problems relating to transformers.
