Module code: EDC324
Credits: 5
Semester: Year-Long
Quota: 50
Department: FROEBEL EDUCATION

Coordinator: Dr Leah O'Toole (FROEBEL EDUCATION)
Overview Overview

This module aims to interrogate the impact of various influences, particularly political and cultural influences, on curriculum development. Appraising the development of early year’s curricula and their philosophies, in particular the emergent curriculum, it will explore the various factors that influence curriculum implementation in Early Childhood Education and Care settings. It aims to critically develop the students’ understanding of documenting children’s learning and the curriculum to support short, medium and long-term planning. The use of documenting the curriculum to support quality provision will be critically reviewed. Using a strengths-based approach, documentation to support sharing of learning will be demonstrated. Emphasis on the child as a confident and competent learner at the centre of provision will be upheld through links with both Aistear, the Curriculum Framework and Síolta, the Quality Framework.
