	Overview
	This module aims to provide a platform for students to continue to explore and cultivate their awareness of including children with additional needs in early childhood care and education settings. It will progress students� understanding of the historical development of provision for children with additional needs from both a national and international perspective. The theory and practice that underpins the care and education of children with extra needs will be considered. Local policies (LINC, Diversity and Inclusion Charter) will be interrogated. The three key areas associated with effectively including children with additional needs, developing an inclusive culture; engaging in inclusive practice and adopting an inclusive pedagogy, identified by Access and Inclusion Model (AIM), will be reviewed.

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: Describe the historical situation of inclusive practices in the broader local, national and international context. Identify the theory and pedagogical practices impacting on the inclusion of children with extra needs in an early childhood education and care setting. Develop a basic understanding of the key policies and legislation pertaining to the inclusion of children with additional needs in an early childhood care and education setting. Explore and develop an understanding of how the Access and Inclusion Model (AIM) works to support inclusion in early childhood education and care settings. Describe how their own inclusive pedagogy and practices supports an inclusive culture in an early childhood education and care setting. Discuss how collaboration with colleagues, parents and other professionals promotes children�s and families� rights and participation.
