• Be familiar with how to organise and structure an academic essay into key component parts.
• Apply analysis and argument in terms of academic writing.
• Consider how to develop an extended piece of writing such as a minor thesis from its component parts.
• Understand the importance of compiling a bibliography and organising a literature review.
• Be capable of referencing content from a range of media besides print and conforming to stylistic conventions.

• Lectures/Workshops will consist of a combination Powerpoint presentations, practical activities and continuous reflection and review.

• Module Graded (numeric value) or Ungraded (Pass/Not Passed): Graded
• Continuous Assessment detail(s): Continuous assessment (2 x 750 word assignments) and One end of module academic essay (2,000 – 2,500 words).

• Pass standard: 40%

• Are supplemental/resit registrations permitted? Yes
• For autumn resit, the major assignment only may be submitted. There will be no re-submission of other continuous assessment components. Marks received during the semester in respect of in-class tests, presentations, minor assignments etc., will be carried over. Essays/projects for autumn resit must be submitted by 1 August and may be subject to a cap.
