| On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: - Understand the role of the finance function, the organisation and the financial environment in which it operates. Assessing alternative sources of finance to meet organizational finance requirements and to be able to determine the cost of borrowing;
- Demonstrate an ability to understand and advise on working capital techniques;
- Demonstrate an ability to use appropriate investment appraisal techniques;
- Understand the elements contributing to capital structure decisions and the consequences of theories governing the debt/equity mix;
- Appraise merger and acquisitions decisions including the calculation of the value of a business;
- Understand the nature of dividend decision, alternative policies that companies can adopt and their significance to investors and alternatives to cash dividends;
- Explain the foundations to portfolio theory and CAPM, understanding risk and risk diversification using portfolio investment; and
- Understand the role of the accountant in personal financial planning to include the financial lifecycle, common forms of personal investments and an understanding of the regulatory regimes governing financial advice.
