	Overview
	In third year, students undertake a policy analysis research project, or minor dissertation of approximately 7,500 words, on a policy issue. Each student is assigned a supervisor and the work is undertaken during both semesters. Students submit a research proposal during the first semester and submit the completed dissertation during the second semester, In addition to individual supervision, up to 20 sessions for the whole class are organised on various aspects of policy analysis research project management, methodology, and report writing.

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: Demonstrate a proficiency in independent research on a relevant social policy topic. Develop a clear, researchable and relevant research question Review the relevant literature on the chosen topic in a thorough, clear and succinct manner. Implement a small scale research plan with clear methodology, in a given time frame. Present and analyse the research findings clearly and relate them back to the literature. Develop a set of conclusions and, where applicable, frame recommendations.
