On successful completion of the module, students should be able to:
-
Apply and learn different value engineering and analysis techniques including QFD (Quality Function Deployment), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), TRIZ (theory of solving inventive problems), Risk Analysis Charts, Decision Trees, Product Design Specification (PDS), Total Quality Management (TQM), Product Life Cycle (PLC) and Product Design Process (PDP).
-
Recognise the need for establishing value to the customer and value within the Product Development Process to create and drive efficiency.
-
Perform a risk and cost analysis for a product using various methodologies of cost evaluation and product value analysis to solve design / value problems.
-
Apply tools and techniques for driving quality and cost improvement.
-
Describe quality requirements and understand regulatory and statutory obligations which must be complied with whilst also looking at other issues relating to hazard identification and risk analysis.
