• recognise, understand and apply basic doubling and blending techniques in orchestration/arrangement.
• render a short piano sketch for ensemble.
• produce basic mock-ups of musical scores.
• demonstrate basic sight-singing, rhythmic and music dictation skills.

• Continuous Assessment detail(s): A. Weekly online aural exercises, sight-reading and dictation assessments. B. One reduction exercise, one MIDI mock-up task, and one final orchestration assignment.
• Other detail(s): Aural skills: Three in-class tests.

• Pass standard: 40%
• Could the result of this module be capped? Work submitted for the first time in August without mitigating circumstances will be capped at 40%.
• Penalties: Non-attendance without approved mitigating circumstances will result in a proportionate deduction from the overall module mark. See the Undergraduate Handbook of the Department of Music for further details.

• Are supplemental/resit registrations permitted? Yes
• Continuous assessment marks are carried forward to the autumn. Specifically, in the Orchestration & Arrangement component of the module (O&A), Assignments 1 & 2 are considered continuous assessment and may not be resubmitted. If the module is failed, only Assignment 3 may be repeated in the Summer resits; you are expected to contact the module coordinator directly if this applies to you to discuss resubmission. Work presented for the first time in the Autumn Supplemental Examination Session will be capped at 40% in the absence of fully proven mitigating circumstances.
