This module focuses exclusively on Netflix TV series in French and explores the ways in which these shows shape and/or expand our understanding of Frenchness. Through an intersectional approach that considers race, ethnicity, sexuality, class, and nationhood, and focusing on different genres (comedy, horror, thriller, YA, etc.), we analyse how global and local networks of power relations give way to 1) new sites of racial difference, 2) more inclusive models of feminism/queerness, 3) a reassessment of the Paris/Province dichotomy, and 4) new explorations of French history.
