The aim of this module is to examine the analysis, design, and systems issues for real time systems, with and without a real time operating system.

Indicative Syllabus:
*Introduction to real time systems.
*Achieving pseudo-real time using the superloop architecture
*Achieving real time behaviour using the superloop architecture with timers and interrupts.
*Multi-tasking / parallel processing and scheduling.
*Synchronisation and resource management among parallel tasks.
*Timing problems such as deadlock and priority inversion.
*Rate Monotonic analysis and related techniques.
*Achieving real time behaviour using a real time operating system.
*Case Studies.
