On successful completion of the module, students should be able to:

Critically analyse how early relationships may impact on later development and defend a focus on relationships as a core element of pedagogical quality

Identify implications for policy and practice, with particular reference to the professional role of the educator in creating nurturing, playful environments for children’s relationships, and critiquing the impact of systems’ functioning on this with reference to the concept of a ‘competent system’

Further interpret the implications of brain development for children’s learning and development and develop strategies to support learning and development

Develop interactional strategies, rooted in a solid foundation of theory and research, that support children’s learning and development, and articulate the evidence for their efficacy
