• Understand and analyse key psychological processes, theories and concepts in relation to early childhood learning and development.
• Describe the role and centrality of relationships for well-being, development and learning and supporting healthy attachment and selfregulation (birth to six years) and explore the formation of relationships and friendships and their role in supporting well-being, identity and belonging with emphasis on play.
• Interpret the implications of brain development for children’s learning and development and develop strategies to support learning and development.
• Outline the development of gender and identity in babies, toddlers and young children and examine the implications for pedagogical practice.
• Examine the emergence, development and use of language(s) and communication in early childhood.

• Lectures, seminars, case-study scenarios, experiential exercises, group discussions and independent learning.

• Continuous Assessment detail(s): This module will be assessed through a range of work which can include: Reflective journal, Student portfolio, Observation tasks, Resource file, Policy audit, Presentation, Research paper, Curriculum development, Children’s work portfolio, etc.
