The degree is targeted at high quality students with a strong background in Economics, Finance or with strong quantitative skills. In particular, students are eligible for admission if they have obtained the equivalent of at least a 2.1 grade in:

• an honours degree in Finance or Economics, or a degree in which Finance or Economics formed a substantial component
• an honours degree in which there was a substantial quantitative component, such as Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematical Physics or Statistics
• a postgraduate conversion course such as a Higher Diploma in Finance or similar.

Applicants with a high 2.2 in an undergraduate Economics or Finance degree, but with 2.1 standard in key modules, may also be eligible and will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the Admissions Director.

Minimum English language requirements: IELTS: 6.5 overall score or equivalent. The requirements specified are applicable for both EU and non-EU international applicants.

Students without the above qualifications may wish to apply for the two-year MSc Finance (MHH74).

The course is designed to be stimulating and challenging. Students take core modules in Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Econometrics in the first semester. In the second semester, students take specialised field modules that may include Financial Risk Analysis, Advanced Derivatives, Financial Economics, International Finance, Corporate Finance, Market Microstructure, Labour Economics or International Trade. The summer term of the second year is spent completing a research thesis.

Year 1

FINANCE Finance is a stimulating and challenging discipline that offers a wide range of exciting and dynamic careers across the financial industry. Our MSc Finance has been designed to produce graduates that meet the demands of employers. The application of finance theory to real-world problems is a consistent theme running through our modules. Extensive use of real-world data is a feature of all taught modules as we seek to integrate theory with real-world practice. The programme offers an extensive training in the core areas of finance, such as Asset Pricing and Portfolio Management; Corporate Finance and Valuation; Derivatives Securities; and Financial Risk Analysis; while also offering a Finance Live module, which will bring financial market participants and real financial market challenges to the classroom, giving students an experience of critically evaluating real-world situations and solving problems. A novel Summer School in Data Management and Analytics in Finance is designed to provide students with practical experience in software used across the industry. In combination, these modules deliver skills that will positively differentiate our graduates in the job market. As financial markets become more integrated across the globe, the career prospects of our graduates have become greatly enhanced, as graduates are equipped for a wide variety of careers. Graduates of this programme have excellent employment records at home and abroad, with graduates working in most of the major financial centres of the world, e.g. New York, Chicago, Hong Kong, London, as well as Dublin. Recent graduates are currently enjoying careers in stockbroking, bond trading, investment strategy, portfolio fund management and investment and retail banking in the private sector. Others have taken up research positions at the Central Bank of Ireland, while some have continued to Ph.D. programmes to pursue an academic career.
