Biotechnology describes how we can gain understanding of biological processes and explores how they can be exploited for beneficial and commercial purposes. It explores the nature of biological molecules, how they are synthesised and how they can be produced, in culture systems, using living cells. It explores all aspects of modern molecular biology including recombinant DNA technology, antibody production and uses, and animal cell culture. It covers disciplines including genetics, molecular biology, immunology, molecular microbiology, biochemistry, and cell biology.

This course requires 2 additional subjects Mature students - Information: Mature Applicants Mature applicants are assessed separately to school-leavers. Mature applicants are 23 years or older by 1st January in the year of entry to the University. For part-time/flexible degrees the mature age is 21. Mature applicants who have a disability If you have a disability or specific learning difficulty (e.g. dyslexia), and require examination support for any written tests that may be required, please submit supporting documentation by 15 March 2024 to the Access Office.
