BA FINANCE
|
Details | |
---|---|
As a student of Finance at Maynooth University, you will learn how to use analytical tools – including mathematics, deductive logic and applied statistics – to examine problems and devise logical solutions. You don’t need to have any previous knowledge of Finance, only an interest in how the financial sector and the economy works and a desire to know more.
Finance is taught as an application of Economics. We teach Corporate Finance, International Finance, Investments, Financial Crises, Derivative Securities and Financial Modelling. Finance modules start in second year. In first year, along with Economics students, you’ll study Principles of Economics.
No previous knowledge of Finance, Economics, Accounting or Business is required, though having studied one of the Business subjects may help a student decide their first year subjects. An interest in current affairs and a wish to understand the role of financial markets in the modern world is more important than any previous studies.
As the original Finance offering at Maynooth, this programme boasts twenty years of graduates. As well as the Finance modules, the parts of Economics important to Finance are compulsory, and there are optional modules in Economics and Financial Accounting. A particular advantage of this option is its flexibility.
A student with an interest and aptitude in languages can take German or Spanish in first year, neither of which requires previous knowledge of the language. You can keep this as a Minor, if you wish. (If you wish to study Chinese or French, consider MH401 International Finance and Economics).
