Applicants should complete the following steps in order: 

Secure agreement from a School of Business faculty member to supervise their research programme and develop a research proposal with this proposed supervisor 

Submit an application to the School of Business PhD Director using the School of Business Application form. 

Once the school has accepted your application complete the university-level online application at www.pac.ie/maynoothuniversity

The following information should be uploaded to your online application form: 

Certified copies of all official transcripts of results for all non-Maynooth University qualifications listed MUST accompany the application. Failure to do so will delay your application being processed. Non-Maynooth University students are asked to provide two academic references and a copy of their birth certificate or valid passport. 

The student, on registration, holds an introductory meeting with their supervisor(s) where a customised and individualised programme of research investigation is balanced with supporting taught modules. These supported modules are identified from a suite of modules that make up the structured PhD programme in business, accounting or finance. Annual progress reviews are part of the research masters programme in business, accounting or finance and completion of requisite generic/transferable skills modules will be taken into account when assessing student progress. Students are required to complete a written thesis and viva voce examination. Students will not be permitted to submit their thesis (or equivalent) for examination without having accumulated the required amount of credits. 

In addition to developing their own research topic with their supervisor(s), students will be required to take 10 credits worth of modules over the duration of their programme of doctoral research. 5 of these will be generic/transferable modules, and 5 in subject/specialist modules.

Year 1

ACCOUNTING The M.Litt. programme in Accounting creates a framework that complements and supports independent research in the field of accounting, whilst providing milestones through which the graduate student will advance, and structured educational inputs to support and develop the student.   Students will be introduced to the components of advanced research and will be encouraged to actively participate in academic communication and publishing where applicable. The rigorous nature of the structure aims to ultimately extend the student’s capability to contribute to theory and develop new knowledge as they proceed through their research project. Alongside exceptional research training and support, the structured M.Litt. in Accounting also aims to provide research graduates with the requisite skills to engage with broader business and civil communities outside academic contexts. M.Litt. students generally start their programme in either September or January. Notes: All students should consult with their supervisor before registering for modules. This is especially important in the first year of your research studies as not all modules are suitable for Year 1 students. Modules with a FM or GST prefix are managed by the Research Development Office. Please consult with your supervisor before registering for these modules.
