	Overview
	This module introduces students to the advanced practice of translation, with a particular focus on different texts from across the Spanish-speaking world. The module equips students with the skills for understanding and engaging with specialised texts (technical, legal, medical, institutional, and marketing) in Spanish. Students will be expected to complete weekly translations as part of this module. Working across a variety of translation-based tasks, students will learn how to deploy different translation strategies, work to a translator�s brief, understand the lifecycle of a translation project, compile a translator�s glossary, and carry out the necessary research for grappling with new texts. This module will also offer students an opportunity to practice their sight translation skills, which are essential for many areas of professional practice.

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: Translate different texts from Spanish into English with confidence Understand and follow a translation brief Navigate and use a variety of analogue and digital language tools Compile a translator�s glossary Be familiar with and deploy different translation strategies Engage in basic Sight Translation.

Continuous Assessment detail(s): Students will be assessed through the following elements: 1. Unseen translation completed in class (20%), 1 hour 2. Unseen translation as part of January exams (40%), 1.5 hours (University scheduled examination) 3. A translation portfolio (40%) (Continuous Assessment)

Penalties: Late submission of assessed coursework or examination materials will result in a reduction of the original grade by 5 marks per day. Assessed coursework or examination materials will normally have to be submitted electronically through Turnitin. Late submission of work owing to medical or other compelling reasons is not penalised. The reason must be established in writing prior to, or immediately (i.e. not more than two working days) after the relevant submission deadline and evidence provided (normally such evidence would be a Medical Certificate).
