	In this course we will explore a sample of sociological literature on cities in order to better read, interpret and comprehend the process of urban social change. In particular, our focus will be on the transformative processes that are currently reshaping the Irish urban landscape. The literature selected reflects the growing importance of cultural analysis of the city, both as a complement to, as well as a critique of, the more established political-economy perspective.

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: To understand core concepts and debates in urban sociology. To understand the processes associated with urban change and urban life. Be familiar with a range of critical approaches to understanding the landscape of the city. Be able to apply global processes to understand Ireland�s changing cityscapes, in particular Dublin. To have developed some skills through classroom discussion, field observation and analysis and other visual exercises.
