This module is the first in a series of modules, which will provide students with foundational knowledge and skills relevant to coaching, exercise and sport science. The aim of this module is to provide students with a framework around which they can begin to develop their understanding and skills of fitness, exercise and coaching, within a safe, ethical and inclusive environment for all people.

In this module, students will be introduced to a framework for long term development in physical activity and sport, which begins by developing physical literacy to provide the basic skills to be active for life and the foundation for those who choose to pursue training for performance. Students will learn the key principles of fitness and develop foundational skills in exercise prescription, delivery, progression and regression. This module will also introduce students to philosophy and science of coaching, including leadership and ethical considerations, which ensures a safe and inclusive environment for people of all genders, ages, abilities, cultural and demographic backgrounds.
