The aim of the module is to support postgraduate research students in: developing their thesis topic; setting out their research plan with respect to key stages and milestones; and beginning their research. The module also provides a structured opportunity for mentorship and development of supportive peer relationships. A range of learning experiences with peers and academic staff will address: planning a postgraduate research programme in psychology; designing your research; synthesizing the literature related to your thesis topic; justifying your research design and critically appraising alternatives; effective communication of research ideas to peers and an academic audience; where appropriate, preparing an application for ethical review in collaboration with the research supervisor.
