Module ENTREPRENEURSHIP THEORY, PROCESSES AND PRACTICES

Module code: MN217
Credits: 5
Semester: 2
Department: BUSINESS
International: No
Overview Overview

This module seeks to enable students to develop an understanding of how to create a business plan for a new enterprise in practice, by blending theory and tools of entrepreneurship into practice. The module will explore the theory of entrepreneurship from a historical and research perspective, understanding the nature of entrepreneurship as well as the entrepreneurial mind-set. Upon this understanding, the module will explore the processes and practices surrounding entrepreneurship and provide students the opportunity to apply these in practice. Modern entrepreneurship is not a solo experience. Entrepreneurs develop ideas individually and collectively, working in teams to provide solutions to customers and society. You will therefore have the opportunity to develop your understanding of entrepreneurship in individual and team settings, with a solutions mindset.

There are five main themes to be covered in this module:
1. The Entrepreneurial Perspective
2. From Idea to Opportunity
3. From the Opportunity to the Business Plan
4. From the Business Plan to Funding the Venture
5. From Funding the Venture to Launching, Growing and Ending the New Venture

Through this module, students will gain valuable insight into the role and nature of entrepreneurship as a mechanism for creating new ventures and affecting economic development, and ultimately the future direction of entrepreneurship. Through this module students will gain insights into how entrepreneurship might be a career pathway for you, be that as an entrepreneur setting up your own business, an entrepreneur developing business ideas within an existing organisation, or supporting entrepreneurs in achieving their goals to create economics and social value for customers and society.
