Overview Overview

Organising research events and presenting at them is a fundamental part of an academic career. In this module, postgraduate students will work together to organise a one-day symposium and will offer a presentation on their research at the event. The organisation will include: coming up with a theme for the symposium; identifying a suitable date and venue; sourcing funding for the event; identifying and inviting a guest speaker; putting together a Call for Papers; identifying ways of publicising the CfP; putting together a programme for the day; designing advertising materials and social media posts to draw attention to the event; organising practical matters, such as catering, travel arrangements, and parking permits; and inviting academic colleagues and fellow research students to the event. In addition, all students will contribute to the event on the day through giving a presentation on their own research.
