• Demonstrate a sound understanding of key concepts, norms, and issues in Translation Studies, as well as theories of translation
• Apply theory in an informed manner in order to analyse translations and specific approaches to translation
• Describe the socio-cultural, political, and historical evolution of translation theory and practice
• Reflect on their own practice as translators
• Complete research-based tasks relating to translation theory.

• 1 hour of instruction per week, with additional tasks (readings and research) to be completed at home.

• Module Graded (numeric value) or Ungraded (Pass/Not Passed): Graded
• Continuous Assessment detail(s): Students will be assessed across three different elements: 1. 1,500 word translation analysis and criticism (40%) 2. 2,000 word coursework essay (40%) 3. 10 minute presentation on a topic in Translation Studies (20%)

• Pass standard: 40%
• Could the result of this module be capped? No
• Penalties: Late submission of assessed coursework or examination materials will result in a reduction of the original grade by 5% (5 marks) per day. Assessed coursework or examination materials will normally have to be submitted electronically through Turnitin. Late submission of work owing to medical or compelling reasons will not be penalised. The reason must be established in writing prior to, or immediately (i.e. not more than two working days) after the deadline and evidence provided (normally such evidence would be a medical certificate).
