Overview Overview

This module provides students with an introduction to the rationales, methods and different theoretical approaches to studying crime and criminal justice comparatively. Following discussion of these general issues, the module aims to broaden and deepen studentsí critical awareness of crime rates and criminal justice models/procedures by locating Irish arrangements in a comparative context. Convergences and divergences in criminal justice and penal policy are also analysed through discussion of globalisation and its impact on comparative inquiry. This foundational knowledge is further built upon in the final part of the module through a discussion of case studies on topics such as global policing and counter-terrorism.
