This module seeks to introduce students to Irish constitutional law. It will examine the core principles of Irish constitutional law, with an emphasis on the powers and functions of the organs and agencies that constitute State power.

Module Content:
Students will examine topics including: the doctrine of separation of powers focusing on the roles and functions of the legislature, judiciary, and executive organs of the State, constitutional interpretation, the principles governing constitutional litigation, international relations, as well as reform and amendment. The course will also examine the operation of the courts, the trial of offences in due course of law and examine how the constitution protects the right to personal liberty.
