Module GLOBALISATION, THE ECONOMY AND DEVELOPMENT

Module code: KD201
Credits: 5
Semester: 2
Department: INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
International: Yes
Overview Overview

The module reviews the concepts and history of globalisation with a focus on the socio-economic impact of contemporary globalisation forces on societies. A key feature of contemporary globalisation has been the growth of Transnational Companies and the fragmentation of production into global value chains or global production networks. In the module we review the impact of GVCs at a global and state level and attempts through voluntary guidelines and legislation to identify the roles and responsibilities of governments and TNCs to address issues of human rights, labour conditions and environmental pollution associated with these production networks.
