• - recognize existing and emerging fields in European history
• - distinguish different categories of historical research and discuss their respective analytical values in application to specific problems in European history
• - process a large body of secondary source material, and appreciate, based on able selection, approaches, methods and significance of seminal studies
• - monitor the coherence and consistence of historical argumentation critically
• - formulate a critical position towards body of existing research
• - transfer approaches and methods to other fields of historical research

• Continuous Assessment detail(s): Oral presentation (30%), active participation in class (20%) and a book review (50%).

• Penalties: No late material accepted unless medical or other compelling reasons are established in writing. The expectation is for full attendance by students. Explanation in writing is required in every case of absence. The project/essay of a candidate who has missed more than 50% of classes will not be eligible for assessment under any circumstances.
