Can we retrospectively diagnose trauma? This module considers the emotional impact of colonialism, slavery and warfare across Ireland, Britain, Europe and America from the early modern period to the present day. We will investigate how stories of trauma and human suffering and the ways in which people worked through their trauma have shaped communal identities and political actions.
