INTERMEDIATE FRENCH 2

	Overview
	Grammar, written and aural comprehension, oral discussion and expression on a variety of topics. Students obtaining a grade of 60% and above on completing this module can be deemed to have attained a CEFRL level of B.1.2. This module is required for students wishing to fulfill Teaching Council requirements.

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: Recognise and manipulate accurately a wide variety of grammatical and syntactical structures in both spoken and written French; Demonstrate critical reading skills and analyse complex texts in French; Produce accurate and concise summaries in French on a variety of topics; Develop personal ideas and opinions and express them accurately through written and spoken French.

Could the result of this module be capped? If the marks and standards are not met, or if the attendance requirement is not met.
Penalties: The oral language assessment is a required element of this module and must be passed (i.e. a minimum mark of 40% achieved) in order to pass the module. A minimum mark of 40% must also be achieved in the written component of the examination. Attendance for this module is monitored regularly. If attendance falls below 70% of session hours, the mark will be capped at 35% for this module. This module condition will not be applied to repeat examinations. Absence owing to medical or other compelling reasons is not penalised. The reason must be established in writing prior to, or immediately (i.e. not more than two working days) after the missed class and evidence provided (normally such evidence would be a medical certificate)

	Autumn Supplementals/Resits
	Are supplemental/resit registrations permitted? Yes 2 hour written examination and an oral examination. If a student has passed the written or oral examination in the May sitting, they are not required to resit that examination in the Autumn examination session, but all failed examinations must be retaken in the Autumn exam period. Continuous Assessment marks are carried forward to the Autumn period and contribute to the calculation of the grade for that exam session.
