Credits: 2.5
Semester: Year-Long
Department: EDUCATION
International: No
Coordinator: Dr Keith Young (EDUCATION)
Overview Overview

The aim of the module is to support participant’s understanding and competency in digital literacy for teaching and learning. The module will expand student’s literacy through engagement with relevant research and exploration of the European Framework for The Digital Competence for Educators as well as the Irish Digital Learning Framework. The module will increase student’ capacity to identify and evaluate digital technologies as a pedagogical tool in teaching, learning and assessment.

Students will explore the use of digital technologies for teaching, learning and assessment through reflection on the current use of technology in their placement schools and its relation to the literature and research on best practice. They will plot their own journey of technology use and reflect on their learning in a continuous way. Various methods of technology supported teaching, learning and assessment will be analysed and different contexts explored. The benefits and challenges of these will be assessed. Particular focus will be paid to developing an awareness of how their digital competencies as educators can be developed.
