Module code: EDM617
Credits: 5
Semester: Year-Long
Department: EDUCATION
International: No
Coordinator: Dr Elizabeth Meade (EDUCATION)
Overview Overview

Extending knowledge gleaned in Global Citizenship-Teaching with Cultural Awareness, this module aims to provide an overview of broader issues of social justice education, offering students different perspectives on and conceptualisations of social justice and providing opportunities for connecting these to their role and identities as teaching professionals.
The module focuses on contemporary issues in social justice education, including social equality, inclusion, human rights, student voice, climate justice and sustainability. In particular, the module focuses on viewing social justice through the relationships we have to others and explores the purpose of social justice education for students’ professional practice. Curriculum and pedagogical strategies that can contribute to informing a social justice framework in teaching practice will also be explored and integrated with the theoretical readings.
