Module code: EDM604
Credits: 5
Semester: Year-Long
Department: EDUCATION
International: No
Coordinator: Angela Rickard (EDUCATION)
Overview Overview

The objective of this module is to build on students’ knowledge of and competencies in their teaching subjects that they have gained through individual subject methods’ modules in PME 1 and throughout the BSc.Ed. Using this as a springboard, this module uses a range of modalities to explore advanced and innovative approaches to teaching and learning in a cross-curricular way. It brings together approaches to enhance students’ capacity to teach their subjects but also to conceptualise their role as educators in its broadest and most holistic sense. Fostering collaboration and self-reflective practices with treoirithe and other professionals is a key objective of this module as students engage in communities of practice to advance their competencies as student teachers and future educators. The objectives and outcomes of this module will be achieved by providing a number of electives, one of which is pursued depending on the preference and identified learning needs of the student. These electives will be responsive to research, policy and practice developments and to the expertise available in the Department. The proposed themes of the elective module to be offered in 2022-23 are:
• Team Teaching
• LGBTQI+ Studies
• Active Methodologies
• Film Studies
In each of these electives, students will explore implications and opportunities for advancing their pedagogical repertoire from theoretical, professional, practical and policy dimensions.
