	Overview
	This module will introduce students to the principles, aims and methodologies of the Primary School Curriculum (1999), with a focus on Infants to 3rd Class. Key teaching skills and pedagogic tools in Visual Arts, Drama, Music, PE, SESE and SPHE will be introduced and explored. Students will also engage with subject-specific curricular planning, with an emphasis on a number of fundamental areas: - the rationale for the use of a range of specific approaches to the teaching and learning process (incorporating the uses of ICT as a methodology) - active learning methodologies - the central role of play - inclusive, Froebelian, enquiry-based learning environments - integrated planning, recording and evaluation of learning

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: Critically engage with the key curricular methodologies of Visual Arts, Music, Drama, PE. SESE, SPHE Demonstrate a working knowledge of the themes, principles and aims of the Aistear curricular framework, as they apply to the teaching and learning of the subjects addressed in this module Identify opportunities to connect theories of learning with the learning process and transfer methodologies (including ICT ) across a range of curricular areas Realise the principles and aims of national curricula in planning, observation, recording and assessment Identify and critically reflect on responses to the teaching and learning experiences offered through different learning approaches Convey skills commensurate with the synthesis and evaluation of a range of key teaching methodologies Plan, organise and manage a variety of learning environments through applying Froebelian and child-centred principles of observation, recording and assessment. Explore and facilitate the use of play in curriculum
