Module RESTORATIVE PRACTICE

Module code: EDF462
Credits: 2.5
Semester: 2
Department: FROEBEL EDUCATION
International: Yes
Coordinator: Richie Walsh (FROEBEL EDUCATION)
Overview Overview

This module provides students with knowledge and understanding in Restorative Practices in schools and the local communities by combining theoretical and practical applications so that the students will progress with a set of values and practical skills to enable them to implement Restorative Practices in the classroom, school, and beyond.

Restorative Practices are increasingly used in schools, both primary and secondary, as a core part of teacher-pupil engagement, to support the development of positive relationships with staff, children and parents, behaviour management and conflict resolution. The work of Restorative Practices in education encompasses the school community in its entirety: staff, students, and their parents. The values and principles of Restorative Practice in action in our schools support the cultivation of a caring, inclusive culture. Using the Restorative Practice lens can have a tremendous impact on how we teach social justice and resolve conflict. Studies have shown that using Restorative Practices reduces disciplinary problems, enhances peer and student-teacher relations, supports the development of emotional literacy, and empowers individuals to have a voice and agency in the healthy resolution of conflict
