Module EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATIONS OF R. E. (II) WORLD RELIGIONS, ECUMENISM, AND INTER-FAITH DIALOGUE

Module code: EDF236
Credits: 2.5
Semester: Year-Long
Department: FROEBEL EDUCATION
International: Yes
Coordinator: Dr Gearard Ó Floinn (FROEBEL EDUCATION)
Overview Overview

The objective of this module is twofold: to prepare student teachers to build on their experience of teaching Religious Education on School Placement and, to enable them to advance their knowledge and appreciation of religion as a global phenomenon and of the search for meaning as a universal facet of the human person.

Two complementary constituents form the basis of this module, as in Year I. The pedagogical element extends participants’ teaching experience to the design and delivery of a longer series of lessons. Secondly, participants’ familiarity with the range
of R.E. syllabuses currently in use in primary schools in Ireland is enhanced and deepened. Under the rubric of subject knowledge, participants are introduced to the academic fields of faith and belief, the question of God, global humanity’s search for meaning, and the relationship between faith and science.
