	Overview
	This module is designed to complement and integrate with the modules EDF130 Language 1/Teanga�1, EDF131 Language 2/Teanga�2 and EDF232 Language 4/Teanga 4 through students� engagement in discussion seminars and reflection activities.�This module integrates aspects of language development, English-language pedagogy, and engagement with children's literature in order to equip students with the knowledge, skills including digital skills, reflective practice, and strategies to develop an effective and creative classroom programme for teaching and learning relating to literacy, languages, and literature in ways that support the learning of all pupils. With particular focus on the middle and senior classes and informed by Froebelian philosophy, this module develops students' pedagogical and curricular content knowledge regarding language, literacy and literature, and their awareness of inclusive education and understanding of pupils� learning English as an additional language and incorporation of their home language(s) in the classroom. The teaching of oral language, reading, writing and spelling will be explored, in tandem with effective classroom practices for literacy development and for developing children�s reading, creative experiences, and aesthetic engagement with literature.

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: Describe and analyse the structure of language in terms of its phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics. Demonstrate an informed knowledge of the significance of meaning in language and communication and relate their significance to the classroom. Identify, plan, apply, and reflect on appropriate pedagogical approaches and methodologies for the teaching of oral language, reading, and writing. Display an understanding of how to inclusively organise, group, and assess children effectively for language teaching and learning. Develop knowledge and understanding of how bilingualism and multilingualism work as well as working with parents and pupils in these areas. Develop knowledge and understanding of various literary genres and their impact on children�s cultural self-identity, language development, and creative literary experiences.

Continuous Assessment detail(s): Students must pass each component of the module. Satisfactory attendance is a requirement of this module. Assessment for this module consists of an exam with two sections: English Methods (50%) and Language Studies (50%). English Literature operates on a non-assessed basis. It is a requirement of the module that each student fulfils a minimum number of posts with a minimum wordcount on the discussion forum on Moodle during the English Literature component of the module.

Assessment for this module comprises an 1,200 word essay due in the second semester with two sections: English Methods (50%) and Language Studies (50%). English Literature operates on a non-assessed basis. It is a requirement of the module that each student posts a minimum of four posts on the discussion form on Moodle during the English Literature component of the module. Satisfactory attendance is a requirement of this module. Students must pass each component of the module
