	Overview
	The module aims to explore curriculum and pedagogy in terms of context, principles and processes emphasising Aistear, the Early Childhood Curriculum Framework. Adopting a rights-based approach, students will consider a range of curriculum approaches against the backdrop of the Aistear Framework. Politics and power in curriculum will be examined, who develops curriculum and whose voice is heard. Pedagogical practices will be explored as key tools in supporting children�s learning, and the view of the child as a competent and active agent in his/her own learning will underpin the module content

	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: Identify curriculum as practice and process, as content and outcomes; Examine Aistear as a curriculum framework; Outline the underlying principles, and practices of a range of curricula and align with Aistear aims and learning outcomes; Explore the pedagogical roles and practices of adults in Early Childhood; Discuss the politics and policies informing curriculum.
