This module draws on theoretical traditions within developmental science and critical perspectives from community and applied social psychology. A bio-ecological model of wellbeing is emphasised which acknowledges the individual and contextual (micro and macro) forces that interact to shape children’s experiences. Particular reference will be made to children and young people who may be marginalised or at-risk. Throughout the module students will explore the key challenges and controversies that exist for those with an interest in improving children’s lives through community based prevention, intervention, or social change.
