• Articulate a knowledge and appreciation of the major counselling theories;
• Demonstrate that they have discussed and reflected on the various theories of counselling and have developed an understanding of their own psychological development and its relationship to the practice of counselling;
• Manifest a working knowledge of how counselling theories and skills assist counsellors in addressing the psychological needs of young people;
• Appreciate how their own life narrative can affect the counselling relationship;
• Evaluate their own style of counselling practice in a self-reflective way;
• Evaluate their own style of counselling practice in a self-reflective way;
• Conduct one-to-one counselling sessions competently with young people aged 12-18 years;
• Understand the ethical principles involved in counselling, and demonstrate an ability to apply those principles in ethical decision-making.

• Continuous Assessment detail(s): Assessment: 5,000 word written assignment 2,500 word paper on Counselling Theory 50%; 2,500 word Audio tape / Critique of Case-Study 50%

• Pass standard: 40%
• Could the result of this module be capped? No
• Penalties: Late submission of assignment will incur a 5% reduction in grade.
