The module explores counselling theories and their relationship to psychological development. Counselling skills and process are practiced with an emphasis on integrating theories, practice and life experience. Students will demonstrate that they have discussed and reflected on the various theories of counselling and have developed an understanding of their own psychological development and its relationship to the practice of counselling. The following major schools of counselling are studied: Experiential and Relationship Theories: Person-Centred, Cognitive Behavioural and Gestalt. Action Theories: Reality and Rational Emotive Behaviour. Narrative Therapy, Transpersonal Theories: Psychosynthesis.
