This module introduces students to the practical and theoretical processes of Alternative Dispute Resolution using mediation and collaborative techniques and principles. Students learn about different approaches to conflict and conflict resolution with the emphasis on mediation and restoring community and working relationships. Principled and Collaborative Negotiation and Building Consensus are explored both in theory and in practice through coached experiential exercises. Students are taught about caucus and shuttle mediation, active listening, use of questions, framing and reframing and option development. This module also aims to provide students with knowledge of the centrality of values as a core element of the mediation process. Students are introduced to Mediation and Conflict Resolution by experienced practitioners in the field.
