	Exploration of the cultural issues that pertain to suicide and self-harm by drawing on case studies; exploration of the social process of suicide by examining how a person''s death can be returned with the verdict of suicide and how the media in Ireland has reported on the increases of suicide cases.The module will also concentrate on the narratives of those bereaved by suicide and those who have made efforts to die by suicide.

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: The aim of this course is to develop an understanding of suicide. Traditionally suicide and self harm have been linked with such disciplines as psychiatry, psychology, sociology, philosophy, theology and the emerging multidisciplinary subject of suicidology.
