	Overview
	This module describes how digital technologies have impacted the visual media. It will investigate images, animation, and film. In the analog world many innovative techniques were developed to enhance and modify the appearance of these media for audiences. The arrival of digital representations and software tools has fundamentally changed how such manipulations are carried out and pushed the boundaries on what can be achieved. An overview of what has been achieved will be given along with discussions on particular algorithms of interest. Consideration will also be made of the challenges facing commercial artists in the digital medium along with some of the ethical concerns that are arising with the increased integration of AI techniques.

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: A brief history of the development of analog visual media. A knowledge of key technologies using the darkroom, the animation studio, and the film production room to create fictional realities. The rise of the digital production studios for visual media and the capabilities of the state-of-the-art systems. An understanding of some of the most important algorithms used to create various digital effects in the three domains. A discussion on the challenges and the ethical issues appearing with the greater integration of AI technology.
